The Barrow County Sheriff’s Office is requesting assistance from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s Athens Regional Office in a murder case. A release from the GBI states Barrow deputies responded to a possible road rage incident that left one man dead and another wounded. 

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating an assault of a Georgia State Trooper. According to a media release form the agency, the Madison County Sheriff’s Office and the Georgia State Patrol requested the probe regarding a shooting incident involving the trooper.

The GBI reports that around 10:10 pm on Tuesday, January 21, the trooper attempted to make a traffic stop on a vehicle being driven by 24-year old Tim Carruth of Colbert.

GBI Investigating After Body Found in Lake

The GBI is investigating after a body was found in a lake Wednesday.

According to a media release, the body of a white male was discovered near 2323 Booth Circle in Winder. It appeared to have been in the water for several days.

The was sent to the GBI Crime Lab in Decatur. Identification and the cause of death are pending lab results.

No foul play is suspected at this time.

The GBI, Barrow County Sheriff’s Office and Barrow County Coroner’s Officer are investigating.

GBI Makes Two Arrests in Statewide Investigation

Two men were arrested this week in connectio with theft of property from the Georgia Department of Natural Resources Wildlife management Areas, the GBI announced.

On Monday, Parker Lewis Dean, 20, of Braselton, was arrested in Barrow County, and on Wednesday, James Arthur Graham, 22, of Lawrenceville, was arrested in Gwinnett County both on charges of theft by receiving stolen property.


The GBI reports the two "went on a burglary spree together targeting the wildlife management areas from May 2019 through September 2019."   

ACCPD Make an Arrest in Shooting of UGA Student

The Athens-Clarke County Police Department announced Tuesday morning that they have arrested a suspect in the armed robbery of two University of Georgia students and the shooting of one of them.

Police arrested 20-year-old Zarren Garner around 1:40 a.m. Tuesday in Gwinnett County. Garner is an Athens resident. He has been charged with two counts of aggravated assault, one count of armed robbery and one count of criminal attempt to commit a felony. At a press conference Tuesday morning, GBI Agent Mike Ayers said more charges may be forthcoming.
