Barrow County School Bus Driver Arrested after Students Finds Gun on Bus

A Barrow County school bus driver has been arrested for taking a gun on school grounds.

According to a release from Major Ryan Sears with the Barrow County Sheriff’s Office, 59-year old Mary Jo Hall will be charged with possession of a firearm on school grounds.

The release states, a student at Sims Academy found a purse on the bus Tuesday. The student looked inside the purse for the owner’s identification when the student found a gun and bullets.

The school took the purse and immediately notified the Sheriff’s Office School Resource Officer.

After further investigating, it was determined the purse belonged to 59-year old Hall of Statham. Hall is employed by the Barrow County School System as a bus driver.

She was taken into custody and charges are pending. The release states Hall will be charged with possession of a firearm on school grounds.

The sheriff’s office states that at no time were the students or faculty in any danger.
