ESP in the Running for $75,000 Chick-fil-A Award

There’s still time to cast your ballot in favor of an Athens-area nonprofit being considered in a national campaign. Extra Special People, or ESP, is the running for the Chick-fil-A True Inspiration Award.

Laura Whittaker, is Executive Director with the organization.

“They choose five organizations from each region throughout the United States and patrons get to go and vote for their favorite charity,” according to Whittaker. “We would be awarded $75,000 and this money would go to help us expand our Java Joy program.”

The Java Joy program hires adults with disabilities and they travel around Athens and Atlanta serving coffee.

“Java Joy is a mobile coffee cart that goes into businesses and organizations serving coffee and transformative joy.”

Whittaker would like to be able to spread the program across the nation.

Supporters have until midnight Monday to vote.

“They go on the Chick-fil-A app and click rewards and under rewards there is information about the True Inspiration Award. If you don’t have the Chick-fil-A app, you can go on our Facebook page or our Instagram page, java.joy, and click the link there and vote away; and you can vote multiple times.”

ESP is competing against organizations in Alabama, Mississippi, and Florida for the Southeast award.
