Dr. Jennifer Scott to be new interim superintendent

Nicole Jordan

Deputy Superintendent Dr. Jennifer Scott has been voted in to be the interim superintendent of the Clarke County School District. This decision comes after the announcement of Dr. Robbie Hooker’s retirement, which will go into effect June 30. Dr. Scott studied at the University of Georgia and holds a bachelor’s degree in speech communications, a master’s in early childhood education, and a doctorate in educational leadership.

The board will continue to search for a permanent superintendent during Dr. Scott’s year-long term, which will end June 30, 2026. She says, “It is an honor to serve as the interim superintendent of the Clarke County School District. I am grateful for the trust placed in me and excited to continue the work that is outlined in our Strategic Plan and set in motion by Dr. Hooker.”

Dr. Scott is known for her emphasis on literacy and has advocated strongly for a more structured literacy approach as opposed to a balanced literacy approach.

Alexzundra Tillman is a part-time reporter and producer. She is currently pursuing her masters degree in Film and Television studies at UGA and hopes to work at the cross section of these two fields in the future.
