Nonprofit leader Kimberly Bennett joins ACC District 5 Commissioner race

Nonprofit leader Kimberly Bennett has joined the race for District 5 Commissioner in Athens-Clarke County.

Bennett is the founder and executive director of youth development nonprofit Cultivating a Lifetime of Legacy, Inc.. She says her campaign will focus on building an Athens “where families, small businesses, and neighborhoods thrive together.”

She joins a race with two other candidates, Athens-native Zander Mason and real estate developer Rick Stanziale. Candidates must qualify for the May election in March.

Emma Auer is an award-winning reporter who joined WUGA as a full-time producer in 2024. She is also a graduate student in UGA's Romance Languages Department, studying French and Spanish. She covers the breadth of Northeast Georgia stories, from Athens City Hall to Winterville farmers' markets. Emma's work has also been heard on Georgia Public Broadcasting.
