Fatal crash on GA 10 Inner Loop during the longest night of the year

A Kia traveling the wrong way on the GA 10 Inner Loop struck three cars, bringing the total number of fatal crashes in Athens-Clarke County to 8 for the year 2025.

On winter solstice night, December 21, Athens-Clarke County Police responded to reports of a wrong way driver at 12:08 AM. A 26 year old female from Lawrenceville driving a 2021 Kia Seltos was traveling the wrong way on GA 10 Inner Loop and collided with a Mercedes-Benz, a Ford Expedition, and then a Toyota Camry.

The driver of the Toyota, a 25 year old male of Athens, suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. The passenger of the Toyota is being treated at a local hospital and is in critical condition.

After hitting the Toyota, the Kia came to rest on the cable barriers, where it caught fire.

The driver of the Kia suffered fatal injuries and passed away at the scene as well. The passenger of the Kia was transported to a local hospital and is in critical condition.

The drivers of the Mercedes and the Ford suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
