The Athens-Clarke County Mayor and Commission approved a series of funding, zoning, and policy measures during its April 7th regular session, including a controversial industrial rezoning request and multiple infrastructure investments.
Commissioners considered a request to rezone 330 Old Hull Road from conditional industrial to full industrial use and approve a special use permit for a concrete batch plant. The planning commission recommended approval with conditions.
Through the consent agenda, officials approved nine items in a single vote, including acceptance of a National Trust for Historic Preservation grant for the Morton Building, renewal of a Victims of Crime Act grant, and adoption of the Vision Zero Safety Action Plan.
The commission also addressed several major “old business” items, including updates to the 2045 Future Land Use Map, a proposed ordinance regulating data centers, and a budget amendment to increase funding for road paving.
Additional actions included funding recommendations for housing counseling and community partnerships, as well as a contract tied to the Arena District development project.
