Athens was the second stop on the 'This Is the Turning Point Tour' and supporters and protesters made themselves known.
On April 14th, during the Turning Point rally event, several University of Georgia students and Athens community members protested Vice President JD Vance and Erika Kirk’s presence.
Charlie Kirk’s widow, Erika Kirk, was meant to speak at the event but decided against attending because of security concerns. Vice President JD Vance was met by a mixed reception as hecklers could be heard amongst the crowd of supporters inside.
Outside of the Classic Center, Athens Mayoral Candidate Tim Denson was in attendance at the protest, leading chants and encouraging solidarity and unity.
