From more than 2,000 applications, less than 70 prospective students have been invited to join the inaugural class at UGA’s new medical school.

64 students have been accepted into the first class of the University of Georgia's School of Medicine.

UGA’s School of Medicine received their preliminary accreditation in February of 2026. It is only the second public medical school in the state of Georgia.

Days after receiving their accreditation, the School of Medicine began accepting applications. More than 2,000 applications were processed in the span of two weeks. From that number, 64 prospective students received a personal phone call from the Dean, Shelley Nuss, who congratulated them on their acceptance.

Associate Dean of Admissions, Brian Steele, said that the inaugural class of the UGA medical school is of exceptional caliber.

Alexzundra Tillman is a part-time reporter and producer. She is currently pursuing her masters degree in Film and Television studies at UGA and hopes to work at the cross section of these two fields in the future.
