The University of Georgia School of Medicine is now accepting applications for its inaugural class. The School of Medicine will be the second public medical school in the state of Georgia.

The University of Georgia School of Medicine received a accreditation Friday that allows them to start recruiting physicians.

The University of Georgia appointed Johan Bester as its new associate dean for curriculum at the School of Medicine.

The funds will be matched by the UGA Foundation, bringing the total value of the gift to $2.2 million to establish the M. Douglas Ivester Scholar at the School of Medicine.

The University of Georgia’s School of Medicine is projected to enroll its first class of students in the fall 2026 semester, with long-standing corporate partnerships helping fund the construction of the $100 million Medical Education and Research Building.
