The Athens-Clarke County Unified Government and the University of Georgia will test their outdoor tornado warning sirens and emergency alert notifications Wednesday morning.
The 12 outdoor tornado warning sirens across Athens and the UGA campus are scheduled to go off around 11:20 am Wednesday. The tests are part of the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s National Preparedness Month in September.
ACCGov Emergency Management Coordinator Meredith Barnum said these tests are vital to be prepared for storms.
“It's important that residents know what the sirens sound like and for our communication specialists to exercise the siren activation process,” she said.
If there’s inclement weather, the test will be postponed to next Wednesday morning at 11:20.
