An 80-year-old man died following a three-vehicle crash Thursday morning in Athens-Clarke County, according to police.

The Athens-Clarke County Police Department said officers responded around 6:00 a.m. on September 3 to a crash near Highway 29 North and Talley Crossing.

Police said Wayne Voyles was driving a 2012 Chevrolet Equinox northbound in a southbound lane when he struck a 2022 Toyota Tacoma traveling southbound. The impact pushed the Tacoma into a 2022 Toyota Highlander, which was also traveling southbound.

All three drivers were taken to a local hospital. Voyles died from his injuries, while the Tacoma and Highlander drivers were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The investigation remains ongoing. Police are asking anyone with information to contact Master Police Officer Lewis. Voyles was the eighth fatal crash victim in Athens-Clarke County this year.

Officials said no further details were immediately available.
