A car accident on Saturday has resulted in Athens’ 7th fatal crash of the year.
On August 8, 2026, a single vehicle crash at the intersection of Lexington Road and Whit Davis Road resulted in a child being transported to the hospital.
The Athens-Clarke County Police determined that a 2018 Dodge Ram traveling westbound made contact with a pedestrian who had entered the roadway from the Hardee’s parking lot. The pedestrian was 9-year old Maxton Ball.
Ball sustained severe injuries and was hospitalized for three days before succumbing to his injuries. This is the seventh fatal crash this year.
At this time, authorities have not released the name of the driver or if any charges will be filed.
