Dr. Akinloye Ojo, longtime host of WUGA program African Perspectives.

African Perspectives, WUGA’s long-running African music and news program, has been playing music by Angélique Kidjo for the last 27 years. She’s a musical legend who recently became the first African musician with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Now, Kidjo is coming to Athens for a performance at the UGA Performing Arts Center and an interview with African Perspectives host Dr. Akinloye Ojo. WUGA’s Havivah Saltz sat down with Dr. Ojo to discuss the visit.

Angélique Kidjo will give a live interview with Dr. Ojo on September 9th at 7 p.m. at the 40 Watt Club. Admissions are limited and first-come, first-served. She will also take the stage at the UGA Performing Arts Center on September 10th at 7:30 p.m.

If you miss either event, you can always catch her interview and music in October on African Perspectives, airing Sundays at 4 p.m. here on WUGA.

The UGA Performing Arts Center is an underwriter for WUGA.

Havivah Saltz has been with WUGA since 2023 as an on-air host and the producer for African Perspectives. She got her start in radio on WOBC FM at Oberlin College (class of ‘23), and she’s also worked as an on-air host on Athens' Power 100.1 and Magic 102.1. She is currently the interim producer of Athens News Matters. Outside of work, you can find Havivah making art, writing fiction, practicing Japanese, petting her very round cat, and watching concerning amounts of TV.
