Street News offers a firsthand look into the Athens homeless community
Street News is a local newspaper facilitated by the Athens Homeless Coalition. The paper seeks to amplify the voices of people experiencing homelessness, and articles are written almost entirely by members of the local homeless community. WUGA’s Havivah Saltz sat down with Street News co-editor Amy Paul to discuss the project.
Street News started publication last year, and its third issue came out in April. You can read all three issues online at athenshc.org.
African Perspectives host Akinloye Ojo discusses visiting music legend Angélique Kidjo
African Perspectives, WUGA’s long-running African music and news program, has been playing music by Angélique Kidjo for the last 27 years. She’s a musical legend who recently became the first African musician with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Now, Kidjo is coming to Athens for a performance at the UGA Performing Arts Center
and an interview with African Perspectives host Dr. Akinloye Ojo. WUGA’s Havivah Saltz sat down with Dr. Ojo to discuss the visit.
Angélique Kidjo will give a live interview with Dr. Ojo on September 9th at 7 p.m. at the 40 Watt Club. Admissions are limited and first-come, first-served. She will also take the stage at the UGA Performing Arts Center on September 10th at 7:30 p.m.
