Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr announced Tuesday that an 18-year-old has been sentenced to 35 years in prison for murder.
Zyquavious Thomas pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter, armed robbery, two counts of aggravated assault, four counts of violation of Georgia’s Street Gang Terrorism and Prevention Act, two counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and possession of a handgun by a person under the age of 18 years. This was in connection to the 2024 murder of 20-year-old Cameron Manago.
Thomas was 16-years-old on May 27, 2024 during an armed robbery at Rolling Ridge Apartments in Athens. He is allegedly a member of the Sex Money Murder street gang, according to Carr.
Carr’s Gang Prosecution Unit partnered with the Athens-Clarke County Police Department, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation to secure Thomas’ conviction.
“With each new conviction, we’re sending a strong message that violent crime won’t be tolerated in Athens or anywhere in this state, and it’s making a difference," Carr said in a press release. "We’re proud to have secured justice for Cameron Manago and his family, and we will continue to use all available resources to keep Georgians safe.”
The State’s case against one remaining defendant is active and ongoing, according to the press release.
