Athens News Matters for March 1, 2023

This week on Athens News Matters:
Early voting is underway for the special election in Athens-Clarke County’s district 2. We’ll meet the candidates – former ACC Commissioner Melissa Link and former school board member Kirrena Gallagher. The residents of the Athens-Clarke County’s District 2 have been without representation on the ACC Commission since late last summer, when then-Commissioner Mariah Parker abruptly resigned their seat.

Losing its commissioner is not the only radical change the district has seen in recent years. After redistricting, it was also radically redrawn by state legislators, giving up much of its traditional East Athens area and now encompassing much to the northern part of intown Athens.
