Athens News Matters for April 18th, 2026: Listen to the WUGA Mayoral Debate

Today on Athens News Matters, Athens-Clarke County mayoral candidates sit down for a debate covering topics like homelessness, public safety, affordable housing, and more.

The race for the next mayor of Athens-Clarke County is packed. All five candidates participated in a debate hosted by WUGA on April 13th, 2026 at the Athens-Clarke County Library. Tim Denson, Dexter Fisher, LaKeisha Gantt, Sharon Miller, and Mara Zuniga responded to several questions ranging from laying out their policy agenda to homelessness to data centers.

Here’s the full debate, which was lightly edited for time and clarity. The first part of the debate was broadcast on Saturday, April 18th at 10 am. The second part of the debate will be broadcast on Monday, April 20th at 8 p.m.

The election will be held on May 19th. Early voting starts on April 27th and lasts until May 15th.
