New wildfires are popping up daily but Governor Kemp is hopeful that they will be contained. Wildfires continue to plague Georgia despite the small respite to the ongoing drought provided by the recent rain.

The Athens-Clarke County Fire Department is urging residents to take note of declining air quality conditions resulting from wildfire smoke drifting into the area from the southern part of the state.

Governor Brian Kemp toured South Georgia to meet with first responders and area leaders, and to view damage caused by wildfires.

The ongoing wildfires in the southern half of Georgia have resulted in poorer air quality as far north as Gainesville. The air quality in Athens-Clarke County is currently rated as being poor as well.
