Athens-Clarke County has new Assistant Manager. Manager Blaine Williams has named Josh Edwards as the new Assistant Manager for Athens-Clarke County.

Edwards comes to Athens from Durham, North Carolina where he currently serves as an Assistant Budget Director. His first day on the job in Athens will be July 22.

Edwards replaces Jestin Johnson, who left earlier this month for a position in Atlanta in Mayor Keisha Lance-Bottoms administration.

Edwards will work alongside fellow Assistant Manager Deborah Lonon.

Athens-Clarke County Transportation and Public Works Director Drew Raessler has resigned to accept a position as deputy director of the Cobb County Department of Transportation in metro Atlanta. Raessler has served as the ACC Transportation and Public Works Director since Sept. 2016.

ACC Government

A sole finalist has been named to replace outgoing Athens-Clarke County Attorney Bill Berryman. According to a media release from the ACC Public Information Office, Mayor Kelly Girtz has selected Judd Drake to succeed Berryman.

The mayor is expected to make a recommendation to the Commission for Drake’s approval at a Special Called Session Tuesday, June 18th.

If approved, the two-year appointment would begin on July 1st. Drake served as the first County Attorney for Macon-Bibb County since its consolidation in 2014.

Positions Available on ACC Government Boards

The Athens-Clarke County government is seeking residents to fill positions on six policy-making boards by June 7th. The positions are on the Athens Downtown Development Authority, Development Authority of the United Government of Athens-Clarke County, Division of Family and Children’s Services Board, the Hearings Board, the Planning Commission, and the Vision Committee.

ACC Government

Athens-Clarke Mayor and Commission are expected to vote on a resolution to adopt 100% clean and renewable energy this evening. County leaders passed a resolution calling for the increased use of renewable energy by the county government in April of 2016.
