Three Republican candidates are looking to take Democratic Sen. Jon Ossoff’s seat come November.
Incumbent Democratic Sen. Jon Ossoff is seen as a tough candidate to run against, but Rep. Mike Collins, Rep. Buddy Carter, and Derek Dooley are vying for the opportunity.
Collins has been a vocal supporter of President Donald Trump. Some of his supporters are worried this connection to Trump and social media posts that drew controversy will turn off more “middle-of-the-road” voters.
Carter spent six terms in the Georgia House of Representatives.
Gov. Brian Kemp endorsed Dooley, a former college football coach. Dooley has no previous political experience, which he said will allow him to do things differently and work directly for voters.
Trump has not endorsed any of the candidates. This increases the chance of a June 16 runoff to determine who will be on the November ballot opposite Ossoff.
These three candidates will be on the Republican primary ballot May 19
